Lutz Tavern, in Portland Oregon is an oasis of porky, BPT goodness in the land of kale salad. The potato roll it is served on is tough enough to handle me wrenching it around to stuff it into my mouth. The pork itself isn't seasoned with anything but salt & pepper, letting the porkiness of it stand proud. I don't know what was in the dredge, but it was there as a supporting actor. It was delicious, and did it's job to elevate the pork, in a tasty & un-greasy fashion. (No bananas. Local hard cider for scale.)

My first BPT west of the Missouri River was at Lutz Tavern in Portland. The tenderloin was tender and pounded thin, with a light breading that let the pork’s flavor come through... though the coating tended to peel off a bit. It came dressed simply with pickles and mustard, a solid, no-frills presentation. I mentioned to the two guys working in the kitchen that this was my first pork tenderloin sandwich west of Kansas City, and one told me he grew up on chicken-fried steak sandwiches in Mississippi so the roots are there! My wife ordered the BLT and loved it, especially the sourdough bread and the house-made blue cheese dressing on her salad. The place has that perfect dive-bar charm up front cozy, a little rough around the edges, but full of character. They had five regional craft beers, a cider on tap, and an impressive lineup of bourbons in every price range. Not worth a cross-country trip from Indianapolis, but if you find yourself in PDX or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, this tenderloin is absolutely worth a stop.
