What is a Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich?
The breaded pork tenderloin sandwich (BPT) is an iconic Midwest comfort food featuring a pounded, breaded, and deep-fried pork cutlet served on a bun. Often much larger than the bread itself, these sandwiches are beloved for their crispy golden exterior and tender, juicy meat inside.
Originating in Indiana, the BPT has become a regional treasure enjoyed throughout the Midwest and beyond. Our directory helps you find the best examples of this classic American sandwich.

We wrapped up our Indy Tenderloin Week adventure at Barringer's Tavern on South Meridian Street in Indianapolis, and what a way to finish! This is a place I've had on my restaurant list for quite a while, but being a bit of a drive from home, we just hadn't made it there. Indy Tenderloin Week gave us the perfect excuse to head into the city on a Friday night and I'm glad it did. Of all the tenderloins we tried during Indy Tenderloin Week, this one was our favorite. The breading was spot-on crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The pork was tender and juicy, with plenty of toppings and dressings to complement the sandwich without overpowering it. Simply put, it's one of the best breaded tenderloin sandwiches I've had in quite some time. The fries were outstanding as well, making for a meal that hit on all cylinders. Barringer's has that classic neighborhood tavern atmosphere with a comfortable dive-bar feel. One side is family-friendly, while the other is reserved for guests 21 and older, giving it a welcoming vibe for just about everyone. We'll definitely be back, and we're grateful to Indy Tenderloin Week for introducing us to a place that might have otherwise stayed on our "someday" list.
Delicious hand breaded BPT.
Took the 2-hour road trip to northern Indiana to check out the BPT many are giving high marks. And deservedly so. Although the sandwich I had was a little thinner than I prefer, the breading didn’t overpower the meat. Breading had a nice crunch and the seasoning was definitely there. The meat was tender and tasty in itself. Overall personally, I put this one in the stellar category.
The meat was very tender, the breading stayed on, and was just delicious to me. I had mashed potatoes with gravy because they sounded good but the tenderloin wasn't complete without fries. Iced tea for my drink. Total $20.50
We have a new contender in Northern Indiana... We've all been to One Eyed Jack's and Jonsey's Junction but have you been to Timber's in Angola, IN? They started making their tenderloin in-house this year and it is EXCELLENT. Our tenderloin last eve was a little thinner than some but juicy, very well seasoned with excellent flavor, and it actually had real bun toasted perfectly. Top it off with their steak fries and coleslaw slaw. Get to Timbers before you make your choice for tenderloin GOAT.
PS. From breakfast to supper, all the food there is great, never had a bad meal there
Now there are 3 pork tenderloins to talk about. Awesome onion straws too.
